Year 1—MSU & Malawi

  • Recruit and hire Visiting Professor (VP) (with input from Advisory Committee)
  • Design and implement project website
  • Recruit  Year 2 Trainees  (with input from Advisory Committee)
  • Select Year 2 Trainees  (with input from Advisory Committee)
  • Develop Mfutso-Bengo research ethics course
  • Develop electronic communication network

Year 2—MSU

  • Visiting Professor in residence at MSU, then in Malawi
  • Visiting Professor develops Malawi-based course
  • Year 2 Trainees assigned MSU and Malawi mentors
  • Year 2 Trainees take foundation courses, attend workshops at MSU (Malawi distance mentorship)
  • Year 2 Trainees consult with MSU mentors on research project (Malawi distance mentorship)

Year 2—Malawi

  • Year 2 Trainees continue foundation, research ethics courses in Malawi
  • Year 2 Trainees undertake research projects w/Malawi mentors (MSU distance advising)
  • Year 2 Trainees develop planned course (MSU distance advising)
  • MSU mentors consult with Year 2 trainees in Malawi (10 day visit, dates variable)
  • Recruit Year 3 Trainees (with input from Advisory Committee)
  • Select Year 3 Trainees (with input from Advisory Committee)

Year 3—MSU

  • Year 3 Trainees assigned MSU and Malawi mentors
