NEW OFFICE BEARERS IN CHRISTIAN ORGANISATIONS ON CAMPUS

    By Gift Mulima, MBBS IV.
College of Medicine for the first time in history, has for the past three to four years, seen a remarkable growth in the Christian community on campus. Whether this implies a corresponding increase in Christian life and influence or not is a different story altogether.

Each Christian organization on this campus has a new leadership every academic year.

Students Christian organization of Malawi (SCOM) was the first do so as elections were done in November last year, 2005.

Roderick Banda was elected as the chairperson of the organization. In an informal interview, which he would hardly remember, he expressed a desire of cooperation among all Christian organizations.

Catholic Students Organization was the second in electing its leadership. Tiyamike Chilunjika was elected as the chairperson and seems to be undoubtedly suitable for the task.

“Helping each other in the community in improving each person’s relationship with God and avoiding being judgmental, each person realizing that he or she is a sinner not picking on others, thereby involving everybody in the community regardless of who you are. Thus, making the community a convenient place for the people to change for the better,” she said when asked to comment on what she looks forward to.

Davie Zolowere is the new leader of the Seventh Day Adventist Club (COM-SDA). In his own words he said; “2006 is a year in which God has blessings for COM students. Let’s praise him.”

“ I pray that the newly appointed office bearers will learn the art of servant leadership. To live as our dear Lord lived, not for himself but for others,” said Tadala Khaila the newly appointed secretary for the club

An organization that intends to breed Christian doctors, Christian Medical and Dental Fellowship, has Peter Chaziya as the new leader. When asked about what he hopes to achieve, he said that he sees it as challenge and is ready to face it. He further said that he would like to see some changes in the organization, not that he saw areas of failure in the way CMDF was before his election.

CCAP Students Organization was the last one to hold elections for new office bearers.Bongani Kaimira is the new chairperson.

In her own words, the former CCAPSO chairperson, Yambaso Makwelero, said; “ I feel the new CCAPSO executive committee is capable of doing great things and taking it to a greater level that will bring glory to God and make Him be revealed and known to people on campus as well as outside it. This is because they put Jesus as their overall in charge.”

Let’s look forward to their potential and manifestation of that potential.
