The MORDOR-Malawi trial (Childhood Mortality Reduction after Oral Azithromycin in Mangochi, Malawi) is being conducted in collaboration with the College of Medicine, the Blantyre Community of Ophtamology and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK). The project aims to determine whether mass drug administration (MDA) with the broad-spectrum antibiotic Azithromycin reduces under-five mortality and morbidity in children living in the Mangochi district. The MORDOR trial is collecting biological samples collected from children to measure the impact of MDA on prevalence of malaria; carriage of ocular, respiratory and gastrointestinal pathogens; intestinal inflammation and permeability; microbial translocation and immune responses.
