Integrated basic science curriculum, 1st and 2nd years

The integrated basic sciences curriculum in years 1+2 tries to encourage students with regular sessions of clinical experience. Students will be split into groups of 8 and will come 2-3 times a year to the wards for some bedside 'clinical experience'. These sessions should last about an hour, and are held onTuesday afternoons (starting 2pm) I think we should concentrate on:
  1. getting the idea across of inspection / palpation / percussion / auscultation
  2. letting them see some basic clinical signs they can link into their basic sciences e.g. a large spleen and haemolysis, or in drawing and chest compliance
The sessions are NOT to teach them how to take a history and perform a full examination - each student only gets 2 sessions per year!
