The exchange programme signed with the dept of surgery Manneheim University was utilized to send one of our postgraduate trainees Dr Takondwa Itaye to German for 6 weeks to learn skills in ultrasonography.  She benefited greatly from this visit. At consultant level Dr W Mulwafu visited German on an exchange visit. Our dept hosted in exchange a surgeon from German for a similar period. He helped in teaching and training in the department and also conducted a successful endoscopy workshop.

Links with Tubingen University in Germany continued strongly and all three MMED Opth candidates and the consultant were again sponsored on an educational visit to German. In exchange a team from German came to Malawi and assisted with teaching on the MMED programme and service at the eye hospital.
