Evidence Based Medicine course
Course goals
The goal of this course is to teach you the fundamentals of evidence based practice in order to prepare you for a future in the health care field. This course looks at:

  • critical appraisal of literature
  • use of library data bases and the Internet
  • quality scoring of published research and implementation of evidence in clinical practice strategies, including barriers and incentives.

Timetable for Evidence Based Practice Course

18th April – 8.30am to 10pm Introduction of group; Basic EBP concepts
                   10.30-12pm EBP concepts cont + Types of evidence
                    1.30pm to 3pm PICO
                     3.30pm to 5pm Searching the Literature – PICO
19th April – 8.30am to 10pm Therapy Article
                   10.30-12pm Diagnosis
                    1.30pm to 3pm Prognosis
                     3.30pm to 5pm HARM
20th April – 8.30am to 10pm Systematic reviews
                   10.30-12pm Meta-analysis

 

Learning outcomes

A successful student will be able to show that he/she can:

  • Seek appropriate knowledge and information through a variety of sources and apply it appropriately to professional practice
  • Critically discuss the value of evidence based practice in healthcare and be able to discuss in depth an area of professional practice.
  • Critically compare and contrast professional practice with practice at local, national and international levels
  • Identify and use relevant sources of the literature to improve learning and work performance
