Job summary

The College of Medicine Private Clinic started operating from 01 February 2018. Almost a year since it opened its services to the public, the volume of business has increased steadily. In order to guide its operations, a Business Plan was drafted and included in the business plan is the need to recruit a suitable and qualified Finance Manager. The Finance Manager is a critical member of the Clinic’s management team who will establish and manage all the financial management aspects of the business. Thus, there will be a need to set up appropriate financial management systems at an early stage so that financial and other assets of the Clinic are safeguarded and to comply with IFRS, laws and regulations of the Clinic.

Key Duties of the Finance Manager

The following are the key duties of the Finance Manager:

  • To set up the financial management policies, systems, procedures and controls

  • To prepare annual budgets and other long term financial plans

  • To prepare monthly management accounts

  • To prepare annual statutory accounts that comply with IFRS, laws and regulations

  • To handle audits, including statutory and others

  • To manage all treasury activities

  • To manage all the tax affairs

  • To manage the finance department staff

  • To manage stocks

  • To assist in Business development activities

  • To initiate procurement processes.

Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

This position requires a person with the following qualifications, skills and Experience:

  • Must have a first university degree in Accountancy or Economics obtained from a recognised University

  • Must be a qualified accountant with CIMA, or ACCA or CA

  • Must be a member of Malawi Accountants Board (MAB) and ICAM.

  • Must have a minimum of 3 years practical accounting and financial management experience in a busy accounting office preferably in a hospital finance department and environment.

  • Those with external auditing experience at audit semi-senior level will have an added advantage.

  • Strong skills in Excel.

Other Competencies/Attributes:

  • Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills

  • Strong leadership and demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team, prioritize tasks and manage multiple activities with attention to detail, meeting tight deadlines under pressure.
