Insectary Technicians (2 positions) – Malaria Vector studies

The Malaria Alert Centre (MAC) requires the services of enthusiastic individuals to work in various positions in studies operating under the International Centre of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) project for a period ranging from one to six years. The project seeks to better understand the persistence of malaria in Malawi by conducting community-based cohort studies and collecting data in Health Centres.

Position summary:

Reporting to the Entomologist, the Insectary Technicians will be responsible for rearing mosquitoes and carrying out membrane feeds.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Among others, In sectary technicians shall perform the following duties;

  • Ensure a functional insectary (controlled temperature & humidity, cleanliness, compliance with health and safety guidelines, appropriate documentation)
  • Rear field collected mosquito specimens
  • Maintain and produce lab colony for membrane feeding experiments

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in laboratory technology or equivalent qualification
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures
  • Computer literacy
