Laboratory Technicians (2 positions) Malaria Vector Studies

The Malaria Alert Centre (MAC) requires the services of enthusiastic individuals to work in various positions in studies operating under the International Centre of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) project for a period ranging from one to six years. The project seeks to better understand the persistence of malaria in Malawi by conducting community-based cohort studies and collecting data in Health Centres.


Position summary:

Reporting to the Entomologist, the Lab Technicians will be responsible for identifying and processing mosquito specimens. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Among others, Laboratory Technicians shall perform the following duties;

  • Receiving and cataloguing field specimens
  • Processing specimens
  • Storing ksamples under stringent conditions and according to protocols
  • Entering into appropriate lab notesbook or computerized database


Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in laboratory technology

  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience in lab management



The position is available for an initial period of two years and renewable subject to performance and availability of funding. The position will be associated with salaries and benefits commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to contract staff at Malaria Alert Centre, College of Medicine.
