KAMUZU UNIVERSITY OF HEALTH SCIENCES (KUHeS)
BACKGROUND
The assenting to the university bill by the President of the Republic of Malawi and The Chancellor of the University of Malawi, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has allowed Kamuzu College of Nursing (KCN) and College of Medicine (COM) to become one university called Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS). KUHeS establishment is awaiting the notice of commencement from the Minister of Education, Science and Technology.
KUHeS will be a comprehensive health and allied sciences university with a unique academic model and Programme Qualification Mix that takes cognizant of the local, national and international health care and training contexts. This publically owned University will be established through Act of Parliament 20 of 2019 by merging Kamuzu College of Nursing (est. 1979) and College of Medicine (est. 1991) after their delinking from University of Malawi. The University intends to train more and better health professionals that are globally competent but locally relevant. It will be a key partner in offering service and generating evidence that informs policies and practice of government and other non-state actors. The University will consider quality education and innovation through research as key to the health welfare of Malawi, the region and beyond. Its operations will be informed by a holistic approach to human health.
1. The Aim of KUHeS
The aim of the University shall be to competitively impart knowledge and produce transferrable skills by engaging in teaching and learning, research, consultancy and application of knowledge, skills and aptitudes to meet professional needs of society at national, regional and global levels
2. Why KUHeS exist – its mission
KUHeS will exist to provide high quality, comprehensive university education in health sciences informed by research that responds to the current and emerging national and global health needs and policies in an efficient, sustainable and result oriented manner.
3. The vision of KUHeS – what it wants to become
To be a world class innovative academic institution committed to scholarly and professional excellence by providing relevant health education, research, consultancy and services for wellbeing and equity in Malawi, the region and around the globe.

In this regard, there is need to develop an identity for the new university, with which it can be recognised and identified.
LOGO AND TAG-LINE COMPETITION
The COM/KCN delinking taskforce is therefore calling on all interested creative minds and graphic designers to participate in a Logo Design and Tagline Competition for KUHeS. The basic rules and regulations of the competition are as follows:
1. Logo design
- It should reflect the Aim of KUHeS and what KUHeS will stand for i.e. aim, vision, mission and core values.
- Should be innovative and unique.
- Should represent excellence.
- Should exude professionalism.
- Should be appealing.
- Should depict the University’s proposed main corporate colours blue and white plus a choice of a 3rd colour from the following available options: red, maroon, yellow, purple, and green. The rationales behind the chosen 3rd colour and colour code for the main corporate colour blue should also be provided.
- Must be easy to use and scalable for all reproduction purposes.
2. Tag-line
- Should describe the KUHeS brand in a few memorable words
- Should be catchy and punchy
- Should be unique and appealing and help the University stand out from competition in the market place (including the international market)
3. Award Prizes
Best logo – MK1,000,000
Best tagline – MK300,000
4. Selection Process
All submissions shall be reviewed by a panel of judges who shall make their recommendations to the KUHeS council for their approval.
5. Submission
- KUHeS logo design proposals should be in a standard graphics format such as pdf, jpg, gif, png, etc. and in colour.
- Tag-line proposals should include an explanation of the rational or reasoning behind the suggested tag-line.
- The submissions should include personal details such as name and contact details.
- The deadline for submission is 6th November 2019.
All entries must be submitted in colour on a CD and a printed copy on white paper, in a sealed envelope, clearly indicating the subject area, and dropped into a Tender box at either of the following physical addresses in Blantyre or Lilongwe:
