 METHOD VALIDATION WORKSHOP

Dates: 12-14 November,2018

Venue: College of Medicine, Blantyre campus- Microbiology Conference room

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences is committed to offer life-long, demand –driven and flexible profession development and trainings in laboratory medicine. The Department through the Research Support Centre has organized a workshop in Method validation.

This course will introduce the statistics required for interpreting validation data and provide the tools to plan and carry out validation studies effectively. In addition, the new requirement of ISO 15189:2012, Measurement of Uncertainty (MoU) will be addressed.

Objectives

After successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Know when and how to use fundamental method validation principles and tools to develop and implement test methods.

  • Understand the MoU concept, terminologies, and practical guidelines for accreditation process

  • Understand method validation and its requirements

  • Select and apply the statistics required during method validation

  • Select and use the appropriate tools for an effective method validation study

  • Appreciate and understand the link between method validation, application, UoM, QC and risks.

  • Explain the concept of metrological traceability and the factors influencing UoM

  • Apply UoM calculations and understand the recording thereof.

Workshop description

Method validation is an important component in establishing and ensuring the quality of results obtained from a test method. It cannot be guaranteed that data will be fit for purpose unless the performance of the test method has been studied and demonstrated to be adequate. Method validation therefore provides evidence that a test method is capable of providing data that are suitable for a particular clinical application.
