Post Graduate Diploma In HIV Medicine.

The College of Medicine (CoM) was established in 1991 as a constituent college of the University of Malawi with a mission “to be an academic centre of excellence in the training of doctors and other health professionals in clinical service and medical research, responsive to the health needs of Malawi and its neighbours within the Southern African region”. The Faculty of Medicine is proud to introduce a new academic program which will be starting in 2017. The program will be in addition to the many highly successful health related courses including the MBBS programme.

HIV continues to be a major health issue in Malawi with 10.3% of Malawian adults aged 15 and 49 were living with HIV, with about 34,000 new infections and 48,000 deaths occurring annually. Malawi has embarked on an accelerated aggressive scale-up of ART provision with aim to control the HIV epidemic by 2030. To achieve these targets, Malawi needs to have large numbers of trained health care workers to deliver care to HIV infected patients and deliver preventive measures. The postgraduate diploma in HIV medicine will enable the practitioner to work at HIV medicine specialist level, managing complex HIV issues at urban health centre, district and tertiary/referral hospital level.
