SEMENOLOGY WORKSHOP FOR MALAWIAN LABORATORY PERSONNEL

 

 

The College of Medicine through the Africa Centre of Excellence in Public Health and Herbal Medicine (ACEPHEM) is pleased to announce a workshop in Semenology for laboratory personnel and scientist interested in reproductive medicine.

 

Dates:            18th -22nd, June 2018

Motivation for the workshop

In Malawi, Andrology services for male partners in couple looking for infertility treatment are rarely if at all provided in hospitals. This is mainly due to untrained laboratory personnel who can give reliable results for proper diagnosis.

 

Workshop Methodology

Mainly interactive consisting of lectures, question and answer and discussion. There will also be hands-on laboratory practicals.

Topics to be covered

  1. Male infertility
  2. Sperm preparation methods
  3. Basic semen analysis (motility, acrosome reaction, morphology)
  4. Nomenclature in Semenology
  5. World Health Organization’s Semen Manual
  6. Quality control in the Andrology Laboratory
  7. Safety guidelines in the Andrology Laboratory

 

Who should apply: This course is recommended to all laboratory personnel, researchers and students interested in male reproductive medicine. 

Workshop fee: USD100 per participant. Course fees cover course material, and tea.  The ACEPHEM has limited scholarships to cover the workshop fees of participants. These will be awarded on merit and on first come first serve basis.
