How to apply

 

NORMAL ENTRY

All students wishing to pursue undergraduate studies at our college must apply though the national council of higher education. Application can be done using one of the following ways:-

  1. Physical application

You can collect an application form from any one of these places : National Council of Higher Education offices in Area 47 sector 2 Lilongwe or from their website www.nche.ac.mw, all District Assembly offices, all District Education Manager’s Offices(DEMOs),  all public universities or their websites, by clicking here [2020/2021 PUS Generic Application Form ]. The form should be filled and submitted to National Council of Higher Education offices before closing date.

  1. Online application

You can apply online through https://pus.nche.ac.mw . Follow the instructions on the online application properly and remember to submit the completed form with the proper requested documents. Make sure that you have the following scanned documents or image files when doing the online application: your photograph, the notification of results, the bank deposit slip and if you are physically challenged or handicapped, attach a certified medical report.

MATURE ENTRY

Application forms can be obtained on written request, in person at the university office or clicking here [Mature Entry Form], it can also be downloaded from www.unima.mw . Duly completed application forms together with proof of payment of a non-refundable application fee of K11, 000.00 for Malawian candidates and U$25 for international applicants should be sent to the university office in Zomba and not at any College of Medicine campus. Applicants should attach a deposit slip as proof of payment of the appropriate application fee.

A complete application form MUST include the following

  1. Copies of all relevant degrees/Diplomas/certificates/academic transcripts which have been indicated on the application form. These must be duly certified as true copies of the originals by a recognized Commissioner of Oaths.
  2. Original proof of availability of funds for training i.e. official sponsorship letter or bank statements of the applicant.
  3. Copy of a bank deposit slip showing the name of the applicant and the amount of application fee paid.
  4. Curriculum vitae (CV) with names and contact details of three traceable referees.
  5. A clear specification of a programme applied for as well as the candidate’s preferred mode of its delivery.
  6. Official reference letter(s) from the current and/or previous employer(s) showing proof of at least 2 years relevant work experience.

ANY APPLICATION FORM THAT WILL NOT INCLUDE THE ABOVE MENTIONED DOCUMENTS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED!

Six credits at MSCE or its equivalent including English and Mathematics plus a minimum of 4 points in Biology and Physical Science/Chemistry. 

 

A-level candidates must have at least 3 passes with a grade of C in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics. Candidates will join in first year.

Year 3 6 Subjects passed with credit at MSCE including English, Biology, Physical Science (or Chemistry/Physics) and Mathematics and a recognized Diploma in Clinical Medicine or its equivalent from a recognized institution plus at least two years working experience as a clinical officer providing surgical and other clinical care services, relevant to the programme chosen at a district or rural hospital. General clinical officers are also encouraged to apply for 3-year upgrading programmes leading to BAI (Hon) and BTO (Hon). Clinical officers already with Diplomas in Anesthesia or Orthopedics   will do 2-year upgrading programmes leading to BAI and BTO respectively. Candidates must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi. Additionally candidates must demonstrate evidence of leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and commitment to providing clinical services at district or rural/mission hospitals in Malawi.  
Bachelor of Science in Health Management Year 3 A recognized Diploma with at least two years working experience in the health sector as either a Health Service Manager (hospital administrator), Clinical Officer, Assistant Environmental Health Officer, Pharmacy Technician, Human Resource Officer, Health Information Officer and Registered Nurse/Midwife.

Year 1 3 A-Level passes with a grade of at least ‘C’ in Biology, Chemistry and a third science subject like Mathematics or Physics obtained in the current year or the previous 2 years. Candidates must have MSCE/O-Level credit passes in English and Mathematics if these two subjects were not done at A-Levels. Or
At least an average of 60% in Chemistry, Biology and a third Science subject like Mathematics, Physics or Statistics at the end of second year of a recognized Bachelor of Science/Education Science Degree programme. Or
A recognized Bachelor of Science/Education Science Degree majoring in Biology and Chemistry. A Bachelor of Nursing degree. Or
Foundation Year -A recognized Diploma in Clinical Medicine (Bachelor of medicine/bachelor of surgery) 

– A recognized Diploma in Pharmacy (Bachelor of pharmacy)

– A recognized Diploma in Rehabilitation Technician (Bachelor of Physiotherapy)

-A recognized Diploma in Biomedical Sciences (Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Sciences),

-with at least two years relevant work experience and 6 MSCE/O-Level credits including English Language, Biology and Physical Science. Or

A Degree or Diploma in any field plus 6 MSCE or O-Level credits including Biology and Chemistry/Physical Science a third science subject like Physics or Mathematics. Interested candidates should have a grade of not more than “4 points” or “C” in Biology, Chemistry/Physical Science.
At least an average of 60% in Chemistry, Biology and a third Science subject like Mathematics, Physics or Statistics at the end of second year of a recognised Bachelor of Science/Education Science Degree programme. Or
A recognized Bachelor of Science/Education Science Degree majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Or
