The Childhood Acute Illness & Nutrition Network, ‘CHAIN’. Building the evidence base for care of acutely ill, undernourished children in limited resource settings – a prospective cohort study” is looking for suitably qualified individuals to fill the post of RESEARCH NURSE tenable in Blantyre.


Job Summary
A research nurse will be responsible for collect all samples from CHAIN participants, conduct HIV testing and counseling for CHAIN participants and their guardians and help in the clinical management of CHAIN participants.


Duties and Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

1. Help in screening and enrolment of eligible children into CHAIN study
2. Sample collection from CHAIN enrolled participants
3. Conduct HIV testing and counseling of all study participants and guardians
4. Conduct anthropometry of study participants
5. Set up, calibrate, and maintain study equipment, as specified by the requirements of the study.
6. Provide information and support for patients involved in CHAIN study
7. Assist in the clinical care of study participants
8. To provide good quality clinical care to patients according to study protocol and ward protocol and to provide support to children and their parents
9. To maintain confidentiality of patients’ records and respect patients and their privacy and rights
10. To maintain infection control procedures at all times according to ward and hospital protocol
11. To keep clear and up-to- date patient records at all times
12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Project Coordinator.


Experience and Qualifications:
i. Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery
ii. Certificate in HIV/AIDS Testing and Counselling is a MUST
iii. Minimum of 2 years’ experience
iv. Must be a Member of the Medical Counsel of Malawi.
