RESEARCH CLINICAL OFFICER

The Helse Nord Tuberculosis Initiative (HNTI) is a collaborative programme between the College of Medicine (CoM), the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) and the Helse Nord RHF of the University of Tromsø in Norway.

The aim of the HNTI is to support collaborative and multidisciplinary tuberculosis (TB) research within the CoM with the long-term goal of building local scientific research capacity that is sustainable, internationally excellent and that makes a direct contribution to local and international TB diagnostic capacity, control policy and practice.

A high-quality individual is required to work full-time on the RaPaed Study, one of the various projects under HNTI. The RaPaed Study is a prospective cohort multi-country multi-diagnostic study aimed to assess the accuracy of 8 new candidate tests in diagnosing Peadiatric Tuberculosis. The candidate will be working at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Obtaining informed consent from study participants.

  • Assisting in subject visits, including direct contact with subjects, processing of visit data, ensuring the completeness and integrity of source documents and case report forms (CRFs), and other related duties.

  • Entering subject information into one or more databases

  • Maintenance of database information

  • Reading and understanding study protocol

  • Participation in a clinical preceptor ship whereby training in clinical skills will be provided by a Research Physician or Principal Investigator. Clinical skills which will be expected after training include, but not limited to, induced sputum training.

  • Performing clinical assessments of study subjects as per protocol, as delegated by PI, and under the supervision of a licensed Research Physician.

  • Performing other clinical duties, such as ward rounds, clinics and/or calls, as per arrangement with the QECH pediatric department.

  • All work is done in accordance with Good Clinical Practices (GCPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

QUALIFICATION: Diploma in Clinical Medicine, those with credit or above will have added advantage.

GENERAL ATTRIBUTES

The ideal candidate should have the following attributes:

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English.

  • Good computer skills including internet, email, and MS Office proficiency.

  • Interested in clinical or public health research

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team.

  • Able to consistently follow procedures and systems put in place.

  • Good problem identification and solving skills.
