THIRD AND FINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS – 2018 RESEARCH DISSEMINATION CONFERENCE
“Health Research for Preventing Illness and Improved Health Services in Malawi”
The College of Medicine (CoM) is pleased to announce that the 2018 College of Medicine Research Dissemination Conference will be held from Friday 23 rd November to Saturday 24 th November 2018 at the College of Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi Campus in Blantyre,Malawi.
The conference is the premier gathering of local and international research scientists, public health practitioners and policy-makers. This year’s theme is “Health Research for Preventing Illness and Improved Health Services in Malawi”. During this conference, participants will discuss and reflect on the role of health research in prevention of illnesses and improvement of health services in Malawi.
CoM is now inviting interested investigators to submit abstracts relevant to any of the following thematic areas:
1. Communicable diseases, mainly focusing on malaria, HIV and tuberculosis
2. Non-communicable diseases
3. Nutrition
4. Health Systems and Policy
5. Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health
Submitted abstracts should include the following sub-sections;
1. Specific thematic area that the abstract addresses (i.e. any of the above-listed
thematic areas)
2. Title
3. List of authors and their affiliations and contact details of the presenting author
including telephone number and email address.
4. Introduction
5. Methods
6. Results
7. Conclusions or Interpretation Investigators are required to use a template of the abstract that can be accessed on the
following website: https://www.medcol.mw/rdc/ .
The abstract should not be more than 300 words in length and should not include any tables or figures. Investigators must clearly indicate whether they intend to make an oral or poster presentation. The abstracts should be submitted by email to 2018rdcabstracts@medcol.mw by 17:00hrs on 7 th September, 2018.
All abstracts will be peer-reviewed and successful investigators will be informed by 28 th September, 2018. Oral and poster presenters will be required to pay registration fees, as follows;
1. Undergraduate and Postgraduate students: MK10,000
2. University of Malawi Faculty members: MK20,000
3. Other delegates: MK30,000
The fees will cover the cost of lunch, refreshments, printing of abstract booklet and other conference-related expenses.
