Opportunity for a small grant in tuberculosis / other infectious Diseases research

HELSE NORD TUBERCULOSIS INITIATIVE, PATHOLOGY DEPARTMENT

The Helse Nord TB Initiative (HNTI) is a collaborative programme between the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), the Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme (MLW) and the Helse Nord RHF in Norway.

“The vision of the grant is to support collaborative and multidisciplinary research in TB, HIV and other infections within KUHeS with the long term goal of building local scientific research capacity that is sustainable, internationally excellent, and that makes a direct contribution to local and international diagnostic capacity and practice aimed at controlling of TB, HIV and other infections.”

As part of this capacity building HNTI has small grants of up to US$10,000 that can be awarded to researchers with small but interesting research questions on the following possible topics:

  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Diagnostics of infectious diseases
  • Tuberculosis epidemiology / genomics
  • Tuberculosis co-morbidities including non-communicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, mental health etc)

The Principal Applicant should be resident in Malawi, a postgraduate employed by, or affiliated to KUHeS. KUHeS pathology (TB, microbiology, molecular etc) laboratory facilities will be available to support the successful candidate where relevant.

  10. The time frame of the intended project
  11. Budget (staff, equipment, materials and consumables, data management, miscellaneous)

The deadline for applications is 30th June 2021. Decisions will be communicated by 14th July 2021
